Braving the rain

So summer has definitely left us behind and we have now to look forward to but wind rain and cold. Since we can’t all look quite as hot ad Rihanna in her chart-topping Umbrella video when it rains, I thought I’d put together a few tips to help us girls looking pretty as winter sets in.

Don’t dry out - Keep Hydrated

In the winter months, it’s common for us to drink less water than we would in the heat, but keeping your body hydrated will help you to avoid the dry and chapped skin what goes hand in hand with cold weather.

Be a softy this festive season - Stay Moisturised

Lips and hands always feel the brunt of the cold as they are most exposed. Make sure you keep lip balm and hand cream handy to banish dryness as soon as it starts. Winter is also the time when greasier products come in handy. Switch your usual moisturiser for a body oil and your skin will stay supple and soft.

Just because we’re comfort eating  - Remember Healthy Snacks

We all know Omega-3 is great for body and mind, but ensuring a diet of omega fatty acids during the winter will help skin stay smoother from the inside. These can be worked into your day by snaking on almonds and sunflower seeds.

Even though its cold outside - Don’t Forget SPF

Like water, SPF is often neglected during the winter months, when there are less hours of sunshine, but it’s still an important part of your skincare regime. It will keep you protected from harmful UV rays, particularly when there’s snow on the ground to reflect the sunlight, as well as giving your skin a protective barrier from the harsh wind and cold. If you want a Christmas kiss - Winter-proof your makeup

Simple tricks and tips can keep your makeup in tip top condition when the weather is working against you. Swapping a wax-based eyeliner for a silicone one will let you create sexy smudgy looks perfect for dark nights. Avoiding sparkly lipsticks and glosses in winter is also advisable as these will show up chapped lips. Stick to moisturising lipsticks with less sheen if you’re after a kiss under the mistletoe!
