Elizabeth Taylor is one of the most famous women in the world, so Lindsay Lohan had a rather large pair of beautiful shoes to step into when she took up the actress's character in the recent Liz & Dick film.

But makeup artist Eryn Krueger Mekash, who has in the past been nominated for an Emmy, worked alongside costume mastermind Salvador Perez to transform Lindsay into one of the biggest Hollywood icons of all time.

Speaking to Daily Beauty Reporter, Eryn explained how she researched Elizabeth's trademark look in order to design the perfect makeup for the 26-year-old star.

"I really tried to emulate the colours she used," the makeup expert said. "And I only put mascara on her upper lashes for the 1950s. It was the style."

Lindsay herself had plenty of ideas for her character's makeup and always wanted more and more liquid eye liner. "We discussed the upcoming looks for the next day the night before so we knew how many changes we were up against - usually a lot - and what time period we were doing, what outfits she was wearing and her makeup ideas for each one."

Eryn said the scene in which Lindsay was made up to look like Elizabeth Taylor filming Cleopatra was the most challenging one for her, as Lindsay had to rock very graphic smoky eye makeup and heavy, dark brows.

But Elizabeth didn't always sport such dramatic makeup, preferring instead to grace the red carpet with a glamorous scarlet lip and volume mascara to make the most of her unusual violet eyes.
