Olivia Wilde's makeup artist explains the perfect metallic smoky eye
Classic smoky eye makeup is always a good choice for a red carpet event, and Olivia Wilde looked stunning in it at the premiere of her new film, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, on Monday night (March 11th).
The actress's piercing grey-green eyes were made all the more dramatic with the inclusion of metallic shades of eye shadow, with makeup artist Melanie Inglessis noting that this kept the look chic and fresh.
She told Hollywood Life: "To create dewy skin I applied a luminous foundation with a wet sponge all over the face. Next I applied a warm creamy blush to the apples of the cheeks; this helped soften the overall look and keep her looking young and fresh."
You can try the same with Sleek MakeUP's New Skin Revive foundation applied with the bristle brush in the seven-piece brush set. Add Blush in Life's A Peach to the fullest part of your cheeks for that hint of colour and blend in well.
"The focus of this look is definitely the eyes," Melanie explained. She first applied a primer to Olivia's lids then traced the shape of the smoky eye over the top and bottom rims with a black pencil liner, such as Sleek MakeUP's Kohl Pencil in Black.
"It doesn't have to be perfect as it will be blended. The darker around the rim of the eyes, the sexier the eyes will look," said the makeup expert.
The next step was to apply dark cream eye shadow, which was swept across the lids before a powder shadow went on top. Try i-Divine in Sparkle 2 for the same colours and run the dark berry shade (Mulled Wine) along your lower lash line and above the pencil liner on your top lashes to create more depth.
"The trick to a good smoky eye is blending," added Melanie.
"Blend all of the colors with a medium and small size shadow brush according to the eye shape that you want."
